Hypochlorous Acid

Hypochlorous Acid is naturally produced by our white blood cells to fight invading pathogens. The invading pathogens will be engulfed by white blood cells through a process called phagocytosis. Once engulfed, the white blood cell produces an oxidant, hypochlorous acid to kills invasive organisms within milliseconds of contact through the myeloperoxidase-mediated peroxidation of chloride ions

HOW IT KILLS PATHOGEN

Hypochlorous Acid can move quickly and can oxidize bacteria in a few seconds, and destroy the bacteria cell wall, prevent further infection.

Hypochlorous Acid is able to breach the cell walls of pathogens. Once inside the bacterium, the hypochlorous acid will interact chemically with proteins, causing them to lose their complex. The proteins' functionality deteriorates, and the cell starts to die and being transformed into water





Hypochlorous Acid PH level & disinfection efficacy

Different PH level will affect the concentration of free chlorine residual in the water. It may be concluded that in free residual chlorination, the higher the pH value the less active is the residual because of its lower proportion of hypochlorous acid. Hypochlorous acid (HCIO) is 80 – 100 times more efficacious than hypochlorite (CIO) .Hypochlorous acid is slightly acidic with ph level 5.0-6.5. It’s safe for human yet with higher disinfection efficacy

Hypochlorous Acid is used for disinfecting medical equipment and disinfecting wounds.

1940
London hospital used Hypochlorous Acid as an aerosol solution for the prevention of pathogens dispersed in the air

Harrison, J.E has verified Hypochlorous Acid disinfection power and it is released during white blood cell oxidation process

DNA synthesis test performed by McKenna and Davies to show that Hypochlorous Acid disrupt bacterial membrane and lead to extensive protein degradation/fragmentation
